Revealed: Top start-ups Singaporeans want to work for

A growing number of Singaporeans are seeking jobs in start-ups.

More than 80% of respondents in CareerBuilder Singapore’s Employer of Choice 2016 survey cited more learning opportunities as the top reason for this decision.

The other key push factors to working in start-ups are exposure to a wide spectrum of job roles (63%), and the ability to work closely with passionate and enthusiastic colleagues (61%).

Top start-up employers

The survey also launched a new category – the start-up employer of choice.

Consumer-to-consumer e-marketplace Carousell topped this list, with online grocery store Redmart, and online financial advice portal MoneySmart, coming in second and third place respectively.

Online furniture store HipVan and e-cosmetics shop Luxola also featured in the top ten list.

“Start-ups are definitely gaining traction and recognition both locally and globally,” said Jessica Ang, Marketing Director, CareerBuilder Singapore.

“As more people seek to learn new skill sets and pursue their careers with start-ups, it is equally important for start-ups to implement effective HR measures. This not only allows them to retain current human capital, but also reach out to a wider pool of potential talents,” she added.

Private sector and SMEs

On the private sector front, Google, Singapore Airlines and Changi Airport Group retained their top positions as employers of choice for the second straight year.

The hospitality and tourism industry also made a big entrance on this year’s list as for the first time, Marina Bay Sands and Airbnb entered the top ten employers of choice in the private sector.
